   Hello Andrew

I have had exactly the same drama that you appear to be having. I am
running pretty much exactly the same kind of system that you are (same
version of R, same version of ESS, however I am running a Win95 machine),
and am receiving the same kind of errors when I try to C-c C-l a source
file. I have written help requests to the list a couple of times in the
past fortnight and have not received a reply, however I remain hopeful :).

Ok, guys, please do the following:

M-x trace-function-background ess-command <ret> <ret>

Then do the C-c C-l command that you did before that broke. Then
switch to *trace-output* buffer and mail me the output.

Otherwise, we will need to go back to running R
(and ESS) on machines with real operating systems...

Well, there is that... Or you could pretend that the windows machine
is really a unix machine by using cygwin. Other than the blue screens,
it's just like unix.
