Process R not running

Hi - Sorry to divert this thread, but....
I have a similar problem, using Xemacs 21.1.9 and R1.3.1. But when starting
xemacs, I get the following in a *Warnings-Show* buffer:
"(1) (initialization/error) An error has occurred while loading ~\.emacs:
Symbol's function definition is void: w32-shell-dos-semantics
To ensure normal operation, you should investigate the cause of the error
in your initialization file and remove it. Use the `-debug-init' option
to XEmacs to view a complete error backtrace."
I tried the -debug-init option but it didn't mean much to me.
And then when I do M-x R, ESS prompts me for the starting directory, but
then I see the message Robert is getting:
"Searching for program: no such file or directory, R"
And then if I put:
"(setq inferior-R-program-name "c:/progra~1/R/rw1031/bin/Rterm.exe")"
in .emacs as was suggested, I get closer but the *R* buffer shows:
"WARNING: unknown option --no-readline
Fatal error: you must specify `--save', `--no-save' or `--vanilla'
Process R exited abnormally with code 2 at Tue Sep 25 09:32:25 2001"
Which is all getting a bit frustrating.
