Not naive at all.
Sqpe is the underlying program that does all the work of the S language.
Splus is the program that operates the GUI to talk to the user and then
passes commands along to Sqpe. Commands that the user types into the
Commands window are passed along as written. Clicks to the GUI are interpreted
and used to generate commands in the language which are then sent to Sqpe
to be executed.
