Timeout waiting for prompt

Hi,

I have upgraded to ess-5.1.18, and am still getting the same problem (i.e.
when trying to run either R or SPlus5, I get the message "Timeout waiting
for prompt. Check inferior-ess-prompt or ess-loop-timeout".

I have installed ess on two machines, both under Xemacs version 21.1, but
one using SuSE Linux 6.3, and the other RedHat 7.0.  The problem only
occurs on the SuSE machine.  

Any hints as to why and what I can do to solve the problem would be
appreciated.
