ESS auto-completion and help() faster?

Tony --
Do earlier (than 5.1.18) versions of ESS have faster auto-completion and
faster loading of code from buffers into R than 5.1.18? If so, which
version would you recommend that we use until version 5.2.0 is available?

Known problem.
I finally have obtained windows/linux laptop, so am looking at this
(and XEmacs/ESS configs) for ESS 5.2.0
