Hello,
i encountered the same problem as Eduardo sometimes ago
described. I found only the question from tony and
i can say: yes no problem to start a xterm (DISPLAY is defined,
if this was your intention?)
Did anybody fixed the problem?

Starting stata in an xterm/aixterm i have no problems with graphics.
The command "query" in stata produces (using an xterm):
------------------------------------------------------ Hardware
pd | /usr/local/stata6/pd.X (binary)
doing the same command in stata under emacs/ESS, i get:
------------------------------------------------------ Hardware
pd |
So the problems seems that stata don't know which pd.Driver
it has to use, which are defined in pddefs. In this file
i found something like:
-----pddefs(excerpt)---------
rgs rs/6000 a <none>
RGS rs/6000 a <none>
wy99 rs/6000 b pd.wy99
aixterm rs/6000 b pd.X
aixterm-m rs/6000 b pd.X -g0
xterm rs/6000 b pd.X
------end--------------------
So, does anyone know how to say stata that he have to use pd.X
also in emacs/ESS (i didn't have the permission to edit pddefs)
or can ESS tell stata a lie about the $TERM??
I'm using:
GNU Emacs 20.3.1
ESS 5.1.18
stata 6.0
on rs6000-ibm-aix4.1.5.0
Thanks a lot!
