Why X-windows on the PC? Several reasons.
First, if you are a unix programmer used to a unix environment, then you
would like to stay in that mode even though you have a PC running Windows
on your desk to stay compatible with the rest of your office.
With XFREE86 you have complete graphic access to all the X-windows programs
that you have learned to use on your unix server.
Second, if you are not a unix programmer, then you still might need access to
the unix server that your university or company provides.
How? After installation of cygwin and xfree86, start xfree86. The x window
comes up with an xterm. Use that xterm to telnet to your host, and then
tell the host your address (DISPLAY=my.ip.num.ber:0) and start computing.
cygwin is complete. you don't need any other clients.
