The image already exists (but needs to be updated in late January for
new versions of R and ESS):
http://software.biostat.washington.edu/statcd/ (I think -- check the
sidebar for where exactly it is on that site)
It's got most of what Rich said, plus some slightly different
instructions. I've not looked at distributors, but if you've got a
burner, D/L and go!
