beautifying an R package

On the "_" key.  It's a good plan to default it to " <- " when writing code.
It is necessary to retain its original value "_" when inside quotation marks.
The "_" is frequently used as a character in file names, for example "_Data"
in S-Plus 4.x and air_band.q in the R library of scripts.

unfortunately, the need for the distinction in default behaviors---within and
without quotation marks---makes the coding of the switch more difficult.
