Save a command into history immediately

I wonder whether I can tell ESS to save an S-PLUS command into
.S+4history immediately when the command is executed. The default
setting save all commands into the file only when the S-PLUS
session exits normally. If S-PLUS, Emacs or Win98 crashes in the
middle of the session, I lose all commands typed in that session.
I use ess-5.1.11, emacs-20.4, S-PLUS 2000, and Win98. TIA.
Paul.
