Memory problem and ESS-elsewhere problem

Dear all,

I'm using 5.1.11 with R-1.0.1, and I have a couple of problems:

ESS-elsewhere is a very useful feature, but I'm having a problem with it.
If the R process on my machine is quit, then I can't start it again if
ESS-elsewhere is running. In fact, the only way I have found now, is to
quit emacs and restart it. Any ideas?

I'm occasionally dumping quite a lot of information in the buffer,
especially when debugging (if you do things like that, I recommend
turning off font-lock-mode for as long as it takes...). This makes emacs
take up a lot of memory. I was wondering if anybody here knows how I can
make emacs free this memory? Just killing the buffer doesn't seem to
help...

Best,

Kjetil
