(list-command-history)?

Thank you very much to A. J. Rossini and others for a job well done on
ess-5.1.12!

I have a question about a slight kink that I am experiencing.

I have installed ess-5.1.12, can load ess-site.el manually, and get full
functionality (editing and processes).

However, when I try to load-file ess in my .emacs, I get a "No command
history" complaint from emacs. I THINK that this results from the
sequence of commands starting with (list-command-history) balks because
there is not yet a command history.

Is this the cause of the problem? Should I simply comment out those lines
of ess-site.el? Thanks.

Sincerely
