Emacs TERMCAP for Lynx

Hi, I have a question regarding browsing S-Plus help within Emacs buffer.
When I am trying to view S-Plus help in Emacs buffer, e.g. help(), Lynx
displays an error "Sorry, I don't know anithing about your EMACS terminal".
I tried to get around by resetting $TERM to "unknown", "dumb", or "vt100".
Only the later worked, but cluttered the buffer with control chars. Does
anyone know how I can suppress (or strip off) terminal control chars from
Lynx output or better yet the TERMCAP info which works for Lynx.
I am using Xemacs 20.4
Thank you,
Vadim
